Waterproofing Solution for NEX Mall, Singapore

In January 2023, NEX Mall in Singapore faced a significant waterproofing issue with its terrace walkway. Triflex Singapore was approached to deliver a durable solution, following multiple failed attempts with other methods, including polyurethane (PU) injections. The mall required a system that could address leaks in the expansion joint and interfacing wall without disrupting daily operations.

The Challenge

The terrace walkway’s expansion joint displayed defects, particularly at the interfacing wall. Previous waterproofing efforts failed due to the absence of reinforcement in the original cementitious layer. The structure required a durable solution capable of managing the building’s expansion and maintaining adhesion to existing materials, such as PVC membranes.

Initial site investigations included coring tests and adhesion analysis, which provided insights into the existing waterproofing system's condition and the optimal approach to sealing the expansion joint.

The Solution

After thorough site analysis and collaboration with authorized contractors Hon Seng Sing Pte Ltd, the Triflex JWS Reverse system was selected for its strong adhesion and crack-bridging capabilities. The system was designed to withstand the expansion of the building while providing seamless integration with the existing PVC membrane.

For additional reinforcement, Triflex ProDetail was applied to the turn-up walls, creating a complete waterproofing solution that sealed intricate areas prone to leakage.

The installation process began with careful surface preparation and the application of Triflex JWS Reverse to waterproof the terrace’s expansion joint. The system’s ability to integrate seamlessly with the existing PVC membrane provided a robust and flexible waterproofing layer. The project was completed swiftly, ensuring minimal disruption to NEX Mall’s daily operations.
