In 2016/17, Triflex proposed to the engineering office of a school gymnasium a high-quality waterproofing solution for its roof walkway and surrounding planted roofs. However, the general contractor chose a lower-cost alternative, which failed within two years, leading to severe damage. By 2020, extensive repairs were required and Triflex was called back to carry out the work.
The Challenge
The school gymnasium's roof walkway and surrounding planted roofs suffered from severe waterproofing failures due to the use of cheaper alternatives instead of Triflex's initially proposed solution.
Challenges Identified:
Long-term soil water saturation that led to membrane failure and leaks.
Weeds that grew between roof tiles due to rainwater infiltration.
Roof deterioration that caused major structural concerns.
Project needed strict scheduling to be completed during summer holidays to prevent school disruption.
The Solution
The damaged roof walkway and surrounding planted roofs were completely renovated using Triflex waterproofing PMMA techonoly to provide long-term protection and durability.

Results
The refurbishment of the Shanghai school gymnasium roof using Triflex ProDetail, ProTect, and SmartTec successfully restored the waterproofing integrity of the structure.
