Car park refurbishment at Düsseldorf Airport

Planned, helped, solved. All together. Car parks have large surfaces, the renovation of which can be time-consuming and disruptive to operations. The P3 terminal car park at Düsseldorf Airport was therefore to be refurbished in stages in order to ensure that at least limited operations could continue. The decision was made to use a sealing and coating system based on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) to minimise closure times. This not only cures quickly, it can now also be applied mechanically with a spray gun thanks to the Triflex SAM product innovation from the Minden-based liquid plastic specialist Triflex. This saves even more time - and protects both the environment and the applicator.

Refurbishment requirements

  • Protection of the concrete substrate against chloride-induced corrosion damage

  • Tested and approved product

  • Possibility of a coloured design

  • Realisation of connections to building components

  • Sustainable renovation and short closure times

  • Fulfilment of fire protection requirements for sealing and marking

Refurbishment steps overview

  1. Substrate pre-treatment by milling, shot blasting and grinding

  2. Surface priming with Triflex SAM spray application and Triflex Cryl Primer 287

  3. Positioning surfaces treated with Triflex ProDeck and mesh fabric

  4. Waterproofing of all component connections with Triflex ProDetail and Triflex Special Fleece

  5. Surface waterproofing with ProPark, variant II

  6. Formation of the wearing course of all carriageways with Triflex ProDeck

  7. Sealing with Triflex SAM spray application and Triflex Cryl Finish 209 in anthracite

WE RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM TRIFLEX IN OPERATING THE MACHINE. MY EMPLOYEES WERE ABLE TO OPERATE THE SPRAY GUN THEMSELVES AFTER A SHORT BRIEFING. IT WAS SIMPLY A CASE OF ‘DEMONSTRATE, COPY’, NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
